INTRODUCTION

Everyone who kites around these parts is pretty cool and friendly and will help you out! If you act like an idiot you will be treated like one. Please respect the safety rules at our local spots so we have access to the beaches. If you want to learn - GET LESSONS! DO NOT COME TO OUR LOCAL SPOTS UNLESS YOU STICK TO OUR LOCAL RULES!LESSONS - GET LESSONS!It is very important that people get proper lessons when learning to kitesurf. Trying it out and hoping that you learn by trial and error is totally the wrong way to learn and the right way to hurt yourself or someone else. WRONG WRONG WRONG. Check with your local kitesurf / surf shop for a good instructor.Get lessons from Guy at Red Baron Kite School

This will save you time in learning and risking yourself and you will not damage new equipment as you would without professional instructions.

SAFETY RELEASE
Never kitesurf without a depowering safety release system, and never without any safety leash. Check your safety release regularly and test it under load, like hanging from a fence post (don't hurt yourself doing this). Non depowering leashes are frowned upon by the south central kite crew.

LOCAL & GENERAL RULES
(SEE ALSO SAKSA Check with the locals about local rules at the beach too!-Keep your kite and yourself away from other beach users.-Don't fly your kite over other people.-Jump when clear from shore and other water users. -THE LAND IS YOUR ENEMY WHEN KITING, KEEP AWAY FROM SHORE AND -ALLOW 100m FOR MISTAKES-Keep an eye on the weather and changing conditions, KEEP YOUR KITE LOW WHEN ON LAND TO REDUCE THE RISK OF LOFTING.-To kite in our areas it is highly recommended to join the South Australian Kitesurfing Association they have insurance available. (It is a condition of using this site that you have joined or are applying to join!)

THE LOCAL SPOTS -FOLLOW THESE RULES!

SNAPPER LOCAL RULES

- experience kitersKeep aware of other beach users as people like to walk their dogs and cats. Be aware of the tide, come in when it gets too low.Don't fly the kite on the beach for no good reason; you are in front of a cliff face!!! When it is onshore it is best to get out to sea and away from the beach in case of getting overpowered. Look out for the rocks which are about mid-tide so avoid jumping close to shore. On light wind days snapper is best avoided, better to wait until the wind really kicks in as the mid-tide rocks are a problem. Snapper is NOT a good place to learn as you must be able to stay upwind; you will not be popular if you are not ready for it. Snapper Point is part of an Aquatic Reserve which means there is strictly no fishing or removing of any marine life. Do not remove shells, seaweed or any other beach item. Although walking on the reef is permitted generally Southcentralkiteboarders recommend keeping feet off the reef, leaving all rocks as they are, and caring for the reef in any way possible, including picking up other people's rubbish. Remember this reef is the reason we can kite here, look after it. For more information on the rules of the park there is a sign at the walkway, also visit the PIRSA link

LITTLE SNAPPER LOCAL RULES
- experienced kiters only, generally not the best spot to start.Little snapper is actually not the safest spot as the beach is covered in rocks and seaweed!Little snapper is a.k.a. Potty Point after one of our mates, Reef Café, South Snapper, and Power Poles. Always kite with a launcher and lander as the rocks are hazardous.Jump and play well out to sea as if you screw up jumping near the beach you will have to deal with the unforgiving rocks. Be aware that there are many reefs just under the water, ask the locals where these are.

KENT RESERVE RULES
- keep away from the beach goers!!!Disobey these rules at your peril - the locals have no tolerance to bad behaviour and people have been sent packing! Keep to the Southern end of the beach near the point!Stay away from the Northern Half of the beach. WHAT DID I SAY AGAIN??? - KEEP YOUR KITES AWAY FROM THE NORTHERN END OF THE BEACH, THIS IS A REAL PROBLEM FOR US ALL, By the way this means show ponies too! keep some distance from the beach!families and swimmers use this area and in many winds SSW there is a wind shadow.Don't EVER land your kite in the reserve area which means you have flown is behind the trees and across the road, this is forbidden!!!Don't mess around on the beach flying the kite for no reason! Be aware that if you end up down wind and to the north the kite is going to be headed into a wind shadow behind the trees, it may drop out of the sky and into a family picnic, keep away from there or be prepared to go further down wind and release your safety.

BOGGY LAKE RULES
  • Take care on launching, especially self launching.Shut the gate no matter what as you come in and out.
  • No dogs permitted and do not disturb the cows.
  • Rig and launch with a helper in the area between the fence and the bushes, you should be away from the fence and ensure that the way you launch would not allow for engagement with the barbed fence if the launch went wrong.
  • Remember when you launch it is very different from sand, you will skip and skid and self launching should be avoided as the kite will also skid and slide on launch, use a good heavy sand bag you will need to bring, self landing are really not a good idea for these same reasons, better to test you safety on the water on the way in if there is no-one else there to land the kite.
  • Absolutely no rigging and launching over the fence in the next paddock to the west of the car park.

The Farmer has given permission for us to access the boggy lake area and we do not want to loose this privilege thanks! Kites are best to get out and stay a safety distance away from the launch area, give way to the windsurfers and other water users. NO heroics inside the launch area please, remember this area out to the small buoy (which is currently missing) is very shallow anyway.Look out for the barb fence which runs into the water on the other side of the reeds, keep away from it. With fresh water consider that there may be branches hidden in the water so take care, generally the boggy area is okay but I don't know every bit, and you may kite in areas I have not, also look out for reports of water conditions - namely blue green algae which normally occurs into and at the end of summer.Do not leave litter laying around and be polite to everyone as they are all friendly.SCREWING UP KENT OR BOGGY FOR OTHERS WOULD BE EQUIVALENT TO SCREW UPS AT CACTUS. BETTER TO KITE SAFE!!!!!!!!

ALDINGA BEACH
Aldinga beach offers a great deal to kite surfers and is in my opinion one of the must fun areas. It needs a SW or NW for best kiting and has flat sand for easy rigging and launching. However it does have hazards, namely the attempt to kite it in N or S winds and even worse in NE or SE winds which are offshore and hazardous. Also it is readily used by other beach goers and cars, both of which kite surfers must keep away from. People and children swim in the shallows and this is NOT the place to be kiting.-North end of the beach is where boats launch from so be aware of this-Get out on the water and stay out until you are finished-Do not try to learn (after you have had your instructed lessons) where there are other people, if they move into your safety zone then you will have to move-Don't stuff around on the beach if there is not enough wind, either wait for wind or pack up. Don't leave your lines out on the beach for long as someone will drive over them and worse hook them up and drive off with your kite attached.

GRANITES
The Granites is in the South East 17 kms north west of Kingston South East. This is one of our premier spots being a wave.Watch out for cars (and planes) on this beach. Please keep this spot safe and open for us all. It is a perfect paradise for kiting and windsurfing. Abide by all usual rules for kiting and: keep away from other beach users please, this place has so much room that there is NO reason for it to be stuffed up by stupid kiting near swimmers and families. If you go south of the Granite rocks, get far enough upwind that you will not hit them. When jumping be aware that it is shallow a bit further out on low tide, check the depth, since it can get very shallow in the shore area and people still seem to want to jump over this, don't! Keep away from the car ramp at the Granites as it is used a lot and even though when you first rock up there may be no one there you can be assured a convoy of vehicles will come down and descend upon your gear! Please look after this place, no littering, and if you camp there clean up and take your glass and plastic with you.MAKE SURE YOU KEEP AWAY FROM OTHER PEOPLE!!! THE SOUTH CENTRAL KITE LOCALS WILL NOT BE HAPPY IF YOU DON'T
Be warned - Aldinga Beach proper (just north of the ramp in front of the shade roof - The northern end of Aldinga Beach) has a down draught of wind whihc ahead of fronts has caused kites to fall out of the sky in no pleasant fashion, different kites and multiple times.
